What does creating a Hub look like?
Expanding Baby Steps involves careful planning, community engagement, and a phased approach to ensure sustainability and success. Our goal is to create a self-sustaining Hub that can serve Student-Moms for years to come. After an initial inquiry, we recognize our Hubs are marked by distinct stages that shape their growth: Infants, Crawlers, and Walkers.
The Hub Phases
Before a Hub begins to take shape, there's an important first step: the inquiry. This informal phase happens when a person expresses interest in bringing Baby Steps to their community and begins asking exploratory questions about what expansion could look like. While it's not yet part of our formal Hub development process, the inquiry marks the start of an interested community that is not quite ready for the infant phase of development.
Infant
There are at least 3 inquiries, and people have connected with Baby Steps staff, having early conversations about local fundraising efforts.
Crawler
Official Baby Steps Staff or Planters are actively fundraising to be able to open their doors and begin serving Student-Moms.
Walker
The Hub is up and running, and Student-Moms are being empowered with housing, community, and support.
